Billing FAQ - accepted prelaunch policy

The accepted launch rules for TOVIO Cloud seats, subscriptions, trials, meters, changes, and cancellation; production billing is not active.

Last updated September 9, 2026

Billing is not active. These rules come from launch catalog 2026-09-07. Checkout, merchant activation, legal acceptance, provider evidence, and entitlement reconciliation remain gated. Everything on this page states accepted policy, not current availability.

Who consumes a seat?

An active human organization member. Pending invitations, AI agents, CI identities, and other service accounts do not consume seats.

What is the difference between monthly and yearly billing?

The service is identical; only the price and the payment moment change. Personal is $4.00 per month billed monthly, or $3.00 per month billed once a year ($36/year). Business is $12.00 per seat per month billed monthly, or $10.00 billed once a year ($120/seat/year). Free is $0 on either period. Enterprise has one shape only: invoiced monthly at $20.00/seat under an exact 12-month commitment.

Beyond the seat price, what can create charges?

Exactly three meters, each with an included allowance on paid plans: storage at $0.15 per GB-month above the allowance, agent sessions at $0.02 per session above the allowance, and hosted CI at $0.004 per CI-minute above the allowance. The catalog prices nothing else — there is no per-repository, per-commit, per-collaborator, or per-gigabyte-transferred charge in it.

What exactly is an agent session?

TOVIO does not provide or run AI models, and no plan sells inference. An "agent" is automation you bring — your own AI coding assistant, a CI bot, or any tool that works on your repository under its own identity instead of yours, through the TOVIO agent edge (the MCP server or SDK). What the session meters is the hosted authorization and accountability service around that access: capability scoping enforced before anything is written, and provenance recorded on everything the agent does.

Mechanically, a session begins when TOVIO Cloud admits one AgentSessionGrant — a human-authorized, repository-bound, time-limited credential the agent presents to work on one hosted repository. Admission is the billable moment: replaying the same grant or renewing its heartbeat does not create a new session, and usage above the monthly allowance is $0.02 per session. An agent that works only against a local repository and never connects to TOVIO Cloud is never admitted and consumes no sessions — a team that uses no agents at all pays nothing on this meter. Agents never consume a human seat, and no plan limits how many agents may run at once; the monthly session allowance, then the per-session overage, is the only agent meter.

How are hosted CI-minutes billed?

It depends on the plan. Personal includes a flat monthly pool of 500 CI-minutes for the whole organization. Business and Enterprise instead include a per-seat grant — 500 CI-minutes per seat on Business, clamped between 1,000 and 12,000 a month, and 500 per seat on Enterprise, clamped between 5,000 and 40,000 — so the allowance does grow as you add people, up to the plan's ceiling. Above the included amount, hosted CI is $0.004 per CI-minute; Free's catalog allowance is 0 CI-minutes. Free is not simply shut out, though: provisioning the Free plan issues a one-time hosted-CI trial — a bounded, expiring grant of compute, measured against lifetime use so it never renews, and issued only to an active account with a verified email address. It widens the ceiling without changing the plan and is never billed. Once it is spent or expired, a hosted job on Free is refused with a plan-limit answer rather than metered. The standing Free path for CI is a runner you operate yourself, which is included on every plan and never metered. Metering is fair to short jobs: CI seconds accumulate across the whole billing period and are rounded once at settlement — never rounded up per job.

Hosted CI is not running yet. No execution substrate is provisioned, so no CI-minutes are being metered or charged against any plan today.

How is storage measured?

Storage overage is $0.15 per decimal GB-month and uses the daily average for the billing period, so a brief spike costs far less than sustained growth. Protected and clear objects both consume storage; deduplication follows the actual stored object model. Note that discarded work still inside its recovery window remains a stored object, so it continues to count toward storage until it is cleaned up.

What do the history and audit windows cover?

The accepted wording is 90-day history on Free, 180-day history on Personal, one-year history on Business, and two-year history on Enterprise, which also carries five-year audit retention. The catalog does not promise retention outside those terms.

A history window is a recovery window for discarded work, not a limit on how far back your commit log goes. The window starts only when repository history becomes unreachable — a deleted lane, an undone or abandoned change, or objects orphaned by a history rewrite — and measures how long that history stays recoverable before it becomes eligible for cleanup. The window never applies to history still reachable from a lane or tag, to objects pinned by an open proposal, or to anything under a legal hold. Enterprise's five-year figure is a different thing again: it is an audit-retention floor — a minimum preservation period for audit entries — not an object-deletion window. Enterprise's recovery window is the two-year figure above.

The window covers only history that has actually synced to TOVIO Cloud. Work you never pushed exists only on your own device, where recovery is governed by your repository's local operation log — not by any plan.

When do allowances reset, and when are overages charged?

Usage windows follow your subscription's monthly anniversary in UTC. If you subscribed on a day a shorter month does not have, that window ends on the month's last valid day. Included allowances reset at the start of every usage window; overage totals are settled once per window, delivered to the payment provider in whole USD cents.

What happens during a Business trial?

The Business trial lasts 14 days and requires no payment method. Trial tenants cannot silently convert into paid service; the owner must accept the effective catalog and terms.

Can Enterprise be tried for free?

Production Enterprise has no free trial and starts paid immediately. Catalog 2026-09-07 permits a free, configuration-only preview for up to 30 days. It cannot authorize production use or dedicated tenancy and does not imply that hosted Enterprise or Tier-2 evidence has been accepted.

What is the Enterprise dedicated add-on?

Enterprise dedicated is $2,500 per organization per month on top of Enterprise seats. It adds dedicated tenancy, a contracted 99.99% SLA once its evidence and legal gates pass, and premium support. Bring-your-own runners are not part of it: they are included on every plan, Free included, and are never metered.

How do subscription changes and cancellation work?

Seat increases prorate immediately. Reductions apply at renewal. Personal and Business may use monthly or annual billing, with cancellation taking effect at the next billing renewal — you keep the service you paid for until then, and you can withdraw the cancellation from the Billing page until it takes effect. Enterprise is invoiced monthly under a twelve-month commitment, so its cancellation takes effect at the exact commitment boundary. Refunds are not automatic. Personal and Business change plan from the Billing page: an upgrade applies now and is prorated, and a step down applies at your next renewal. Switching an existing subscription between monthly and annual billing is not yet offered — until it is, that means cancelling at your renewal and checking out again. Your payment card and invoices live in the payment provider's portal, reached from the same page; plan changes are never made there. Enterprise changes go through sales.

Can I pause a subscription?

Yes, on a monthly plan, over whole billing periods and up to ninety days at a time, from the Billing page. You are not charged for the periods the pause covers, so the page offers the dates your billing periods end on rather than a free choice of day. Reads, clones and pulls continue under your plan's allowances; pushes, agent sessions and CI runs wait until collection resumes, which happens on the date you chose or earlier if you ask. Annual plans are not paused this way — their next renewal falls beyond the ninety-day limit — and Enterprise pauses are arranged with sales.

Is data transfer (egress) billed?

The accepted catalog contains no egress meter — the three meters above are the only ones — and it also makes no unmetered-egress promise in either direction. If egress pricing were ever introduced, it would arrive as a new catalog version, never retroactively.

Do donations count toward a subscription?

No. Donations are a gift that supports the open-source engine; they are not a subscription and do not include or discount hosted TOVIO Cloud features.

Can I run TOVIO on my own infrastructure?

The engine, CLI, SDKs, and specification are Apache-2.0 and run anywhere with no agreement, and tovio serve gives you networked version control without the collaboration platform. The Forge is a proprietary commercial product, available on your own infrastructure to dedicated enterprises under agreement. Review the license boundary for permitted use. Neither path carries seat, session, storage, or CI meters — the catalog on this page prices TOVIO Cloud only.
